Secondary Science Teacher

As outlined in labor agreement


  • Must hold valid State of Michigan secondary teaching certificate with endorsement in specified content area (DX or DI preferred) and highly qualified per ESSA
  • Comfortable and confident instructing at the middle and high school levels, specifically Chemistry and Anatomy/Physiology with respect to high school courses 
  • Knowledge of standards-based, proficiency-based instructional practices preferred
  • STEM instruction preferred


  1. Prepare course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
  2. Establish and enforce classroom management procedures consistent with building and district protocol.
  3. Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and report to parents as needed and required.
  4. Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
  5. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  6. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
  7. Use a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.
  8. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate those objectives to the students.
  9. Assign and grade class work and homework, adhering to building and district protocols.
  10. Prepare, administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress.
  11. Collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction and adapt and modify curriculum in order to meet individual student needs.
  12. Participate in the development and revision of goals and performance objectives for students, course content and learning activities, evaluates procedures and instructional materials.
  13. Keep attendance and grade records as required by the district.
