Assistant Superintendent Curriculum and Instruction

To strategically manage, direct and supervise the curriculum and instructional process for grades Pre-K through 12 to promote the best possible educational experience for all students.


  1. Master’s degree or higher in the field of administration required, with coursework in educational leadership and/or curriculum instruction. 
  2. Valid State of Michigan administrative certificate.
  3. Minimum of five (5) years building level administrator preferred. 
  4. Minimum five (5) years of successful classroom instruction required. 
  5. Experience with curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  6. Demonstrated knowledge of current educational practices, including, but not limited to Advanced Placement and AdvancED School Improvement.
  7. Demonstrated leadership and success in staff development.
  8. Experience with data, assessment, and strategic planning.
  9. Evidence building a culture of collaboration and PLCs.  
  10. Demonstrated experience in budget management.
  11. Skills to foster continued professional growth of staff.


  • Lead the district in the research, development, implementation, and evaluation of elementary and secondary curriculum.
  • Oversee professional development activities for the district.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of instructional and student support programs.
  • Coordinate and monitor the district school improvement and accreditation process.
  • Work with Building Principals to manage “Title I” and “At-Risk” programs; maintain title and grant application. 
  • Work with Building Principals in maintaining a district-wide Y5 - 12 assessment system.
  • Prepare reports and materials to provide administrative staff and the Board of Education with information relative to the instructional program.
  • Work with staff in the implementation of the curriculum to obtain the developmental goals and student outcomes in Y5 - 12 grades.
  • Provide support for assessment programs, i.e. M-Step, SAT, PSAT, i-Ready, etc.
  • Oversee instructional initiatives so that they are sustained.
  • Coordinate teaching and learning coaches. 
  • Oversee and maintain teacher evaluation systems in conjunction with the Superintendent’s office.
  • Facilitate curriculum portion of the District Strategic Plan.
  • Supervise Coordinator of Curriculum, Director of Early Childhood, and Learning Coaches.
  • Supervise building administrators and directors in all areas of district curriculum and instruction.  
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Superintendent.


The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction will serve under the direction of the Superintendent.   


Salary range of $110,000 - $115,000, commensurate with skills/experience.
