JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

 

JOB TITLE:                 PAYROLL CLERK

 

JOB SUMMARY:       To provide accounting support and ensure the prompt and accurate processing of all payroll related transactions.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to):

  • Receive, maintain, record and process wage and salary information of all employees for the production of payroll executed through a computer program.
  • Receive and compute all deductions for income tax, retirement, insurance, annuities, etc., including preparing necessary reports and checks for deductions in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a record of salaries, wages, hours worked, payroll deductions, authorized voluntary contributions and dependency records for all personnel.
  • Prepare all tax forms relating to payroll.
  • Oversee records of staff absences.
  • Accurately apply contractual controls over payroll; refer and review irregularities and conflicts with Director of Finance.
  • Maintain all payroll registers and related payroll documentation for record keeping purposes and provide such information to auditors, as required.
  • Verify all amounts before and after checks are computer processed.
  • Compute wage reports for retirement, unemployment compensation, etc.
  • Assist in handling unemployment and workers’ compensation claims.
  • Manage all fringe benefits and insurances, including communicating with providers.
  • Calculate and maintain support staff seniority.
  • Daily review of certified substitute requests and follow-up in absence reporting system; reconciliation of substitute payroll.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Finance.

 

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of five (5) years bookkeeping and/or accounting experience.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to type 50 words per minutes, including statistical typing.
  • Ability to pass District payroll test.
  • Ability to learn and use the District and RESA computer systems within a reasonable time.
  • Ability to relate well with other people.

Testing will be required to demonstrate skill level and competency.

Compensation:  $$22.61 to $26.11 per 2017-2018 salary schedule; based on experience and education.

Hours of Position:  7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., 12 month position
