Job Title:

Instructor/Teacher for Automobile Technician and other junior high or secondary courses (dependent on certifications) 

Summary:

The BCHS Instructor for Automobile Technician is responsible for leading the instructional program and implementing activities for high school students working toward careers in automobile technician. The instructor is responsible for meeting the unique needs of the students assigned to the program and prepares students for careers in automobile technician professions.

Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):

1. Teaches the state approved standards

2. Divides the course content into 12 segments over a 2-year period

3. Completes crosswalks for all foundation skills

4. Organizes and facilitates a minimum of two advisory committee meetings each year

5. Provides a work-based experience for each student each year

6. Updates the NATEF Self-review each year

7. Updates/revises curriculum each year

8. Keeps teacher certification current through local, state, and national professional development opportunities

9. Assesses and measures student growth

10. Follows BCCS procedures and policies for classroom management and safety

11. Assumes responsibility for classroom materials, equipment and facility

12.  Familiar with and able to maintain NATEF certification

Qualifications:

Education: Associate’s degree or higher preferred. Valid Michigan vocational certification in related pathway, or eligible for Interim Occupational Certificate with bachelor’s degree and a minimum 4,000 recent and relevant hours of work experience in the field within the past six years, or eligible of annual authorization with a minimum of 4,000 recent and relevant hours of work experience in the field within the past six years. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in brakes, electrical, suspension and steering, engine performance, and maintenance and light repair.

Experience:

Successful teaching experience at the secondary level preferred

Other Information:

The expectations of this position may require teacher to have the flexibility to teach other junior high or high school course, based on their certifications.  Candidates with multiple certifications are preferred.
