Position:                         Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services

REPORTS TO:                Superintendent

JOB GOAL:                     The Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services is responsible for implementing the District’s vision for an exemplary and compelling K-12 education to prepare all students for 21st century scholarship, citizenship and leadership.  To this end, the Assistant Superintendent oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of the District's instructional and professional learning programs.  In addition, the Assistant Superintendent works closely with the Superintendent to ensure that academic and curricular programs reflect the values and vision of the Brighton Community, as well as the Board of Education. The Assistant Superintendent must be adept in managing all supervisory, budgetary, and compliance related duties associated with the position while providing extraordinary leadership and guidance as the district continues its quest to be a state and national academic leader.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum.
  2. Five (5) years of experience in public school administration.
  3. Possess a Michigan Teacher and School Administrator Certificate.
  4. Knowledgeable in all aspects of curriculum, instruction and assessment.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational Administration or Curriculum
  2. Ten (10) years of experience in public school administration.

  2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as grants, journal articles, governmental forms and handbooks and is able to follow instructions and complete applications as applicable.
  3. Superior ability to express self clearly; both orally and in writing.
  4. Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.

Technical Skills:

  2. Strong knowledge of productivity applications such as Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software), Google platform applications (Classroom, Docs, Sheets) and others are required.
  3. Remains current and updated regarding computer technology.
  4. Ability to create documents that are well organized and display information that is logical and graphically appealing.
  5. Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  6. Ability to utilize technology to organize, prioritize, and work independently, as well as cooperatively with diverse groups.
  7. Attention to detail and ability to edit documents to ensure error free communication.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum and Instruction:

  1. Develops, implements and monitors the District’s curriculum review cycle aligned to adopted standards.
  2. Prioritizes and secures instructional resources aligned to the curriculum review cycle.
  3. Provides an online, transparent and collaborative curriculum management system for the District
  4. Understands instructional “Best Practices” and supports the District-wide implementation of these practices.

Assessments & Data:

  1. Develops and monitors a District-wide balanced assessment system.
  2. Supervises all federal, state and District assessments.
  3. Provides and supports a District-wide data warehouse system.
  4. Facilitates data dialogues with administrators.

Professional Development:

  1. Develops and monitors a long-term professional learning plan that supports the District’s strategic plan.

School Improvement Process:

  1. Develops and implements a District improvement plan aligned to the AdvancED framework
  2. Ensures all schools develop and implement school improvement plans aligned to the AdvancED framework and the district improvement plan
  3. Facilitates any Quality Assurance Reviews for accreditation

State and Federal Programs:

  1. Understands and adheres to compliance requirements of all state and federal grant programs
  2. Develops a plan to allocate state and federal grant funding aligned to the District's strategic plan and district and school improvement plans
  3. Works closely with the Business Department to adhere to all state and federal grant requirements.

Other Duties:

  1. Serves on Superintendent cabinet team.
  2. Responsible for District and School annual reports.
  3. Creates and maintains district web pages pertaining to the District's educational programs.
  4. Creates and implements new initiatives pertaining to curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
  5. Attends board meetings and prepares reports to the Board.
  6. Maintains regular predictable attendance.
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Evaluation:                   Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent

Annual Salary:            $115,000-$130,000
