Alpena Public Schools is accepting applications for a Secondary Social Studies Teaching position at ACES Academy.  RX or CX endorsement required; Additional endorsement in elective or core area desirable. 

ACES Academy is a part of Alpena Public Schools and is a learning community focused on preparing students for individual success.

ACES Academy provides students the opportunity to work with our staff and personalize their learning allowing for greater opportunities for success using Blended Learning Instruction, that infuses technology into daily classroom lessons. This unique format of learning provides greater flexibility for teachers to connect our digitally-wired students with their learning experiences.  Additionally, students have a variety of options to earn credit outside of the classroom including testing out, work-based learning, Career and Technical Education options, credit recovery, volunteering, and dual enrollment with Alpena Community College.

Working in partnership with the Alpena Senior Citizens Center, ACES students are provided multiple credit based/career focused learning options within our “Flex Day” format. From these and other options, each student creates their Individual Development Plan (IDP) to map out available options and design a timeline for graduation that is personalized to fit their needs.

To help support students in their learning journey, each student will be connected with a staff member who will become their mentor and “go to” person as they plan their roadmap towards graduation.  Mentors will connect with parents and families using a variety of communication tools to help build a solid bridge between home and the ACES community. From our orientation program to graduation, our support team works closely with the students and their families to help overcome the barriers that often interfere with student success. 

ACES Academy will utilize a blended learning format beginning in the 2018-2019 school year.  Blended learning is the combination of in-person instruction and educational technology that personalizes learning for students and allows them to progress at their own pace.  Flexible time is built into the schedule to provide time for students to work on fully online courses, assignments from their blended classes, and an online portfolio showcasing their academic growth. Staff will have a small group of students they will mentor on a daily basis during our Flex Time.  Mentors will provide direct instruction on Social and Emotional Learning and academic skills that support career readiness. They will regularly check in with students and communicate with parents.
