Summary of Duties

Responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities.  Ensures that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports as students pursue a high school diploma.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Special Education Certificate.
  • Must be Highly Qualified and endorsed in the areas of Cognitive Impairment (SA), Emotional Impairment (SE), or Learning Disabilities (SM).
  • Must have experience developing Personal Curriculums within the high school setting.
  • Prefer 3 years or more experience working with children that struggle to make progress in the general education curriculum.
  • Experience working in a co-taught classroom.
  • Must have experience with the MTSS/RTI process, both academically and behaviorally.
  • Ability to create academic and social programs to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Must possess strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Must have experience with academic and behavioral interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports on children and activities, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Meet with parents to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs.
  • Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social/emotional development.
  • CPI certification is preferred.
