Position Details: 

POSITION: Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations LOCATION: Kurzman Administration Services, Crary Campus JOB GOAL: To provide the leadership that permits Business Services and Operations to remain focused and aligned in meeting the District’s Mission. To provide the leadership that permits Business Services and Operations to implement a plan to meet District Goals that are consistently reviewed and improved. To assist the Administration of Business Services and Operations so that they may coordinate their areas of responsibilities to support the District’s Vision. To promote the overall goals of the Waterford School District. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master Degree, Business Administration, Finance or Accounting Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in finance and accounting; CPA preferred Minimum of five (5) years of successful administrative and leadership experience in school administration Possess or be eligible to receive Chief Financial Officer Certification through the Michigan School Business Officials organization. Ability to read and interpret documents, such as financial reports, state codes, and Board of Education policies. Ability to write comprehensive reports and correspondence. Ability to present and speak effectively before the Board of Education, administrators, staff, parents, and students. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as Administration may find appropriate and acceptable. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Recommend policies relating to the operation of business affairs of the District. Recommend changes in the organizational structure, staff, space, and equipment needs to effectively perform support functions. Make provisions for the orderly collection and dissemination of school business information that will assist the Board of Education, the community, and other school administrators to make wise educational decisions. Provide advisory services to each school in the District about its’ business operation. Initiate programs to improve system, method, and procedures for the operations of school business affairs. Provide orderly procedures for collecting, planning, reporting, and analyzing budget needs. Provide for the planning, collection, protection, and legal and judicious use of all funds available to the District. Maintain accounts and records that meet legal and budgetary requirements, and provide necessary safeguards of School District assets. Communicate through appropriate reporting techniques significant financial information to principals, central administrators, the Board of Education, and the community. Serve the district in the absence of the Superintendent by being responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the total district. Identify, develop, and promote higher standards for all Waterford School District schools and staff as measured by the receipt of competitive awards, grants, and recognition for cost efficient procedures and practices. Provide orderly procedures for preparation, reporting, and distribution of payroll. Administer a program for the effective and efficient procuring of outside services, supplies, repairs, equipment, and facilities necessary to the implementation of the educational programs. Administer a program of office services for central administrative personnel, and provide advisory services in planning, organizing, staffing, and operating school offices. Administer the auxiliary services of Food Service, Purchasing, Performing Arts Centers, Pool and Fitness Centers, and Senior Center. Administer the construction or alteration of school plants and equipment. Administer financial and business applications of data processing in the District. Administer liability coverage for property, fleet, liability, and claim preparation. Administer real property management including easements, surplus property, and sale and purchase of property. Administer the collection of property taxes and submit tax resolutions for the Board. Administer District master plan, bond projects, and building site programs. Administer District building programs. Administer District Building and Site Fund. Administer District Debt Fund. Administer District employee benefits. Administer District safety and security programs. Administer care of all building and grounds, including maintenance of plant. Supervises the traditional Business Services Departments and Athletics. Carry out such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or results from this position in the community.
