Position Details: 

A Utica Community Schools Alternative Learning Center Teacher possesses the willingness to become skilled in research based, blended teaching methodologies and strategies. Teachers in our program work as part of an educational team developing a collaborative working environment where high expectations are set and maintained for students and staff alike.

  • Possess a valid teaching certificate, with credentials to teach Math for grades 9-12.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of colleagues to attain alternative learning center goals.
  • Desire to motivate and work with at-risk high school students in a positive environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain high expectations for self and students.
  • Continued career development by participating in professional growth and training activities provided by Utica Community Schools.

Schedule: Daytime program meets Monday - Friday 7:15 am - 2:45 pm, per UCS student calendar


  • Oversee Math lab setting with two other staff members.
  • Work with students toward course completion.
  • Develop and run blended learning pullout sessions for concept enhancement.
  • Facilitate social emotional learning mentor group on a weekly basis.
  • Commit to the inputting and monitoring of student information data outside of the regular working day.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and utilize all available curriculum resources.
  • Establish and maintain regular channels of communication with student, family and staff.
  • Work to increase motivation and positive reinforcement to learning. This includes Growth Mindset and Love and Logic within the ALC setting.
  • Input and maintain accurate records as required by state and federal law and district policy and administrative regulations.
