Salary Range:        $85,000 - $110,000

Position Summary

As a critical member of the DPSCD’s Technology Infrastructure Team, the Server Engineer will be responsible for responsible for the designing, planning, evaluating, and administration of Microsoft and Linux server platforms, virtual and storage infrastructure, and business application deployment. The Server Engineer will be a valued member of the Server team and as such will be regularly looking to identifying opportunities for improvement, expansion and innovation.     



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology is preferred

  • Five (5) years previous systems engineering experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in server and storage infrastructure implementation and support.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in data center operations.
  • Experience with VMware vSphere (ver 6.5)
  • Working Knowledge of Server 2003, 2008/R2, 2012, 2016
  • Technical, Analytical, Interpersonal skills required
  • Experience with Dell & HP Server Technologies
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with Microsoft Azure AD connect and Office 365.
  • Infrastructure support including: Windows Server, vitalization, SAN/storage platforms, Active Directory (AD)
  • Shell scripting
  • Organized with strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and directed – independent worker; effectively prioritize and multi-task
  • Good data analysis and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proven experience in developing and building relationships with non-IT and IT customers
  • Excellent problem solver and technology troubleshooting
  • Operational support (Tier 3) of: server (virtual & physical), storage, backup, and Active Directory
  • Ability to provide on-call support twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team and communicate effectively.
  • Interpersonal skills: such as telephony skills, communication skills, active listening and customer-care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Position Job Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director of Technology Infrastructure, the Server Engineer shall:

Essential Functions

  1. Deployment and support of Microsoft and Linux systems to support the IT, Business needs.
  2. Assist in maintaining cloud-based enterprise solutions including Microsoft Azure / Office 365 (including SharePoint).
  3. Provide Tier 2 and 3 End User Support. Share on-call, off-hours support.
  4. Responsible for researching potential external vendors, maintaining current vendor relationships, and ensuring projects' successful completion.
  5. Respond to help desk requests via phone and online help desk system and follow-through on all assigned tickets to meet/exceed client expectations.
  6. Help develop plans for systems development and operations, hardware and software purchases.
  7. Maintain familiarity with currently implemented and new technology, including new versions of software/firmware, implementation of upgrades, and changes to procedures/commands.
  8. Provide clear communication and documentation of events, processes, procedures and configuration details. Communicate and monitor compliance with existing practices.
  9. Provide sound judgment for solving complex technical issues. Including effectively communicating the problem to management with recommendations for action to resolve the issue.
  10. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  11. Provide support and ongoing reinforcement of change management philosophies related to changes and advances in innovative business systems.
  12. Identify and document key policies, procedures and governance for enterprise systems operations.
  13. Participate and facilitate outage resolution and develop root cause analysis.
  14. Research, pilot, integrate, and implement new technologies as needed to support business needs and requests as well as pursuing new opportunities and innovation.
  15. Special projects as assigned.
  16. Mentor and grow younger engineers throughout the organization.
  17. Perform systems performance assessments and security audits.
  18. Support internal run and maintenance activities, including remote monitoring and management system, respond to alerts, monitor health and seek improvement opportunities.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
