Building Custodian – Second Shift

GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible to ensure that the building, facilities and grounds are maintained in the best condition possible with the emphasis on safety and efficiency. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. General knowledge and skills equal to a high school education.
  2. Be physically able to perform the required work, including:
  • Bending and squatting
  • Dead lifting 50 – 60 pounds
  • Lifting over head
  1. Basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry, protection systems, heating, air conditioning and State and local codes and regulations for same required.  (Certification preferred)
  2. Mechanical ability to service and operate power equipment, including power tools, floor buffers, snowplows and lawn mowers.  (Certified mechanic preferred)
  3. Knowledge of and ability to operate, adjust and maintain hot water heaters, boilers, humidifiers, ventilation fans, heating and air conditioning systems at maximum efficiency.
  4. Ability to interpret and follow written and oral directions and read blueprints.
  5. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  6. Demonstrated aptitude to be a team player.
  7. Ability and willingness to be on call 24 hours a day and work under moderate pressure of deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be able to perform usual custodial duties both inside and outside the building.
  2. Display initiative in maintaining the operation and appearance of the buildings.
  3. Assume leadership and responsibility in satisfactorily laying out work to be performed.
  4. Properly initiate requisitions to adequately maintain supply levels of maintenance materials for the buildings.
  5. Perform maintenance and repair work while maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.
  6. Constantly strive to promote the safety, health and comfort of students and employees.
  7. Show a positive and cooperative attitude in working with students, fellow employees and the public.                                                                                      
  8. Exhibit a positive attitude of pride in assignments, the appearance of the buildings and equipment.
  9. Be able to initiate and complete tasks without close supervision.
  10. Handle the operation and general maintenance of all equipment in the buildings.
  11. Report regularly to the Maintenance Supervisor in regard to the condition and needs of the buildings.
  12. Perform all other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
