Job Description

Position Opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Administrator, this position is responsible for providing support services for children suspected of having a disability and/or identified visually impaired students, enrolled in regular, vocational, or special education programs and services.  The Teacher Consultant for Visually Impaired will also provide consultation to educational personnel on behalf of visually impaired students. Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Visual Impairment.       
  • State approval as a Teacher Consultant for Visually Impaired or ability to obtain approval.
  • Orientation and Mobility certification or specialization is preferred.
  • Knowledge of special education laws, rules and regulations.             
  • Ability to organize and manage a variety of responsibilities as an itinerant and to serve multiple local school districts. 
  • Interpersonal skills to involve parents, teachers, and administrators in effectively implementing programs and services for visually impaired students.
  • Knowledge of the expanded core curriculum for students who are blind or visually impaired.

Working Conditions:

  • Requires daily travel.
  • Staff may be assigned classroom and/or non-classroom space in which to work with caseload students.
  • Office space will be provided at Ingham ISD or in a local school district.
