Position:                     English as a Second Language Teacher – Elementary Level



  • Valid Michigan Teaching certificate
  • ESL endorsement completed, or in progress
  • Bilingual Skills preferred  
  • Knowledge and understanding of reading and writing process
  • Experience with Sheltered English Instruction or other bilingual/ESL programming preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of the WIDA standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of second language acquisition
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to use a variety of instructional technology
  • High degree of flexibility and patience in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work well with elementary aged students


Reports to:                 Building Principal


Job Goal:                  

  • To provide a quality educational experience for all students based on the goals, curriculum, and philosophy of Shelby Public Schools
  • To maintain and promote effective and innovative programs for students
  • Improve delivery of instruction to our EL population
  • Improved proficiency of our EL students on district and state assessments
